Stop Motion Animation Time For A Game
Poker, space-invaders, rock-paper-scissors, we’re sure you know all of these. But did you know that playing games is actually good for your health? And not only for children! We had an absolute blast creating a stop motion animation video that celebrates the joy of playing games.
The mixed-media video directed by New York City-based director Marion Favier is a vibrant mix of colorful visuals and whimsical creativity, was designed to highlight the surprising benefits of gaming—not just for children, but for everyone. From poker and space-invaders to rock-paper-scissors, the video captures the essence of fun and play, all while conveying a message that playing games is good for your health, enhances communication skills, and even boosts productivity and job satisfaction in the workplace.
We spent countless hours preparing the props for the shoot: painting a hand white with black dots, transforming a can to pink, creating checkered nails, adapting the chessboard’s color scheme to match the film’s palette, and hanging balls on strings.
This hands-on work is an integral part of the creative process. For a team like ours, which predominantly works with digital tools, this type of shoot brings us back to a more tactile, manual preparation. It’s a reminder of our childhood, where play and creativity were intertwined, and it allows us to reconnect with our craftsmanship. This experience not only reignites our passion for the art but also reinforces the importance of traditional skills in our modern, tech-driven workflow.
Our creative process for this project was as imaginative as the final product. We used an array of small objects, gallons of paint, and a generous dose of creativity to bring this mixed media video to life. Each element, from eggs that jump and turn into pancakes to a chess game played with a plastic hand, was meticulously crafted to ensure the video was not only entertaining but also visually captivating. The magic paper book, electrifying orange, and rolling eyes added a touch of surrealism, making the video a true ode to lightness and amusement.
The stop motion animation technique allowed us to inject a sense of playful spontaneity into the video. By carefully arranging and filming each object frame by frame, we created dynamic scenes that resonate with viewers of all ages. The inclusion of space invaders made of dominoes and rock-paper-scissors battles added a nostalgic touch, reminding us all of the simple joys of childhood games. This approach highlights how playing is not just a pastime, but an essential part of well-being—a theme that runs throughout the video.
In the end, this stop motion animation video is more than just a collection of playful visuals; it’s a celebration of the fun, creativity, and health benefits that come from letting go and enjoying the moment. Whether it’s at work or in your personal life, playing games can be therapeutic, enhance your communication skills, and bring a sense of lightness to your day. We invite you to consume this video without moderation and let it remind you of the importance of play in our lives. At FEVR, we’re proud to have created this playful, colorful piece that’s sure to bring a smile to your face.
