Superbia – 2D Animation
Our animation studio, FEVR, recently produced “Superbia”, a satirical 2D animation musicvideo that dives into the illusion of instant success and superficial beauty. In this short film, we tell the story of a pen who consumes a drug called BR7, which promises wealth, power, attractiveness, and admiration. Yet, the tale cleverly unravels how these illusions lead to conformity, with everyone who takes the drug becoming identical, losing their uniqueness in pursuit of a false ideal.
*Superbia* is not just an animation; it’s a critique of the obsession with quick fixes and the allure of instant gratification. The narrative humorously escalates as the protagonist is compelled to take BR8, BR9, and so on. What starts as a boost in confidence soon spirals into a loss of individuality. Our animation mirrors the hollowness behind chasing temporary highs, emphasizing that true fulfillment cannot be bottled or bought.
The project was crafted using Toon Boom, a powerful tool in 2D character animation. FEVR handled everything from art direction to final animation. Our team meticulously designed each character to reflect exaggerated traits of artificial perfection while maintaining an absurdist undertone. The production involved storyboarding, character rigging, and smooth, dynamic animation to enhance the satirical feel.
With this musicvideo, FEVR sought to create more than just an engaging visual experience; we aimed to spark a conversation. The flashy, uniform appearances of those who take BR7 highlight the emptiness behind the façade of perfection. Through this playful yet pointed narrative, “Superbia” reminds us that real life isn’t about mirages—it’s about embracing who you are, flaws and all.
