About the project:
FIFA Worldcup Philadelphia - Mixed Media Animation Video
FEVR created a mixed-media campaign celebrating Philadelphia as a FIFA World Cup host city. Blending live-action, motion graphics, and custom animation, the project captures the city's vibrant culture and football spirit through a bold, energetic visual identity.

Mixed Media Animation Meets Live Action: A Fusion of Reality and Graphics
This motion graphics video demonstrates the power of mixed media animation by combining real dancers and street performers with vibrant, hand-crafted graphic elements. By seamlessly integrating live-action video with frame-by-frame animation, we create a visual rhythm where music, movement, and motion design converge.
The fusion of filmed performance and animated patterns delivers an immersive, high-impact experience that pushes the boundaries of traditional video production. FEVR specializes in this hybrid live-action animation style, bringing precision, energy, and authenticity to every frame of mixed media work.
Art Direction & Visual Identity: The Colors of the Global Game
For the PHLCVB campaign, our team established an art direction that merges Philadelphia's rich historical texture with the universal, electric energy of the FIFA World Cup. The visual challenge was twofold: showcasing a premium, accessible East Coast destination while evoking the raw, unscripted passion of international football fans.
The color grade applies a crisp, documentary-style contrast to Philly's iconic landmarks and culinary scenes, reflecting the warmth of an American summer. This is deliberately paired with sharp, neon vector lines, electric blues, vibrant greens, and tournament golds, that streak across the screen to trace the path of the ball, map out geographical proximity to hubs like New York or Boston, and visualize the invisible connection between the fans and the streets.

Storyboard & Creative Structure: Planning the Mixed Media Flow
We broke down the film into distinct sequences through detailed storyboarding to design seamless transitions between live-action and animation. Each scene was carefully mapped to ensure fluid integration of filmed elements and motion graphics, with a clear narrative progression from establishing shots through energetic movement sequences to a memorable resolution.
These storyboards and creative drafts offer a behind-the-scenes look at how FEVR plans and structures mixed media projects before production begins.
Frame-by-Frame Animation: Precision in Every Movement
The heart of this mixed media project lies in our meticulous frame-by-frame animation technique. Each dancer's movement was individually traced to create animated outlines and energy trails that perfectly follow body mechanics. This labor-intensive approach creates a unique aesthetic where graphic elements feel genuinely connected to the physical performance rather than simply overlaid in post-production.
The animated patterns were designed as a visualization of sound itself. We created sine waves and geometric shapes that hug the contours of bodies in motion, particle trails that follow every gesture creating persistent light streaks, and radial motifs exploding from the impact points of dance movements. Rhythmic lines pulse in sync with the beat, creating a parallel graphic choreography.
Each pattern is calibrated to suggest audio frequencies—bass, mids, highs—transforming the visual into an abstract sound spectrum, where live-action footage becomes the canvas for animated motion graphics.

Live Action Animation: When Reality Meets Motion Graphics
This hybrid live-action animation technique bridges the gap between tangible reality and digital imagination. Real dancers, real movements, enhanced by hand-crafted animations that respond to every gesture. The result is a visual language where physical performance and motion design merge seamlessly.
This type of mixed media video is particularly effective for product launches, brand campaigns, and event visuals where dynamic storytelling needs to combine authentic footage with creative animation, creating memorable visual experiences that captivate audiences eager to push traditional boundaries.
The Result: A Fresh Take on Mixed Media Storytelling
The Urban Pulse video successfully captured the essence of urban movement and high-definition sound through our live-action animation approach. The hybrid mixed media style created a fresh, unique aesthetic that demonstrates how blending filmed performance with motion graphics can transform a product video into a genuine artistic statement.
This fusion of media mirrors the versatility of music itself—whether hip hop, pop, or electro—every element comes together seamlessly in a fluid, immersive visual language that celebrates both street culture and cutting-edge technology.
