Explainer Videos

An explainer video is a short animated video — 2D or 3D — built to make a product, service, or idea clear in under two minutes. Done well, it does what a paragraph of text or a static deck can't: it makes people get it fast, and remember it.

Work we've done

We've made explainer videos for teams like Uber, Twilio, Indeed, Chanel, CVS, Coinbase, and GM — alongside startups shipping their first product video and nonprofits explaining their mission to donors. The brief changes every time. The standard doesn't.

What actually makes an explainer video work

Most explainer videos fail for the same reason: they try to say everything. The ones that work make one argument, clearly, and get out.

That starts with the script, not the animation. Before a single frame gets drawn, we ask what the viewer needs to believe by the end of 60 seconds — and cut everything that doesn't serve that. A tight, specific script with a real point of view beats a beautiful video with a vague one, every time.

Storytelling helps here — not as a buzzword, but practically: a clear before/after, a relatable problem, a character the viewer recognizes as themselves. It's why people remember explainer videos when they've already forgotten the slide deck that came before it.

Visuals and voiceover come after, and they're built to match your brand — not a generic "explainer video" look pulled from a template library.

How we work

Discovery and script. We start with your product and your audience, not a stock format. The script gets locked before animation starts, because that's where most projects go wrong or right.

Storyboard and style. You see the whole video in still frames before we animate a single second — so changes are cheap and fast, not expensive and late.

Animation and sound. 2D or 3D, depending on what the story needs. Voiceover and sound design built for the final cut, not bolted on.

Revisions and delivery. You get a dedicated point of contact through the whole process, not a ticket number.

If you're deciding whether to reach out

You don't need a finished script or a locked concept. Tell us what you're trying to explain and who needs to understand it — we'll tell you honestly whether an explainer video is the right tool, and what it would take.

The Creative Process: From Concept to Screen

Creative Direction & Storytelling Foundation

Every exceptional 2D animation at FEVR begins with solid creative direction that establishes the visual language, tone, and artistic approach. The creation is a structured process that we’ve refined over years of practice, moving from initial ideas through character design, story development, and production stages to the finished product. This phase involves deep collaboration between our creative directors, clients, animation team, and agencies involved in the production pipeline to define the project’s aesthetic DNA.

Successful animation projects require the combined efforts of many people, including creative directors, clients, and team members, emphasizing the importance of communication and teamwork throughout the process. We meticulously craft the storytelling framework, often accompanied by script development and voiceover planning when narrative-driven content is required. This foundation ensures every subsequent creative decision serves the overarching vision, a methodology we’re passionate about perfecting.

Pre-Production Planning: Storyboards & Animatics

Traditional 2D Animation Techniques

Traditional animation forms the foundation upon which our art of 2D animation expertise was built. In this meticulous process that we cherish, our animators create the illusion of movement by hand-drawing or painting each frame of a sequence, often using tools like pencils, ink, and paint. Every drawing is crafted with care by our team, capturing subtle shifts in character poses and expressions to bring animated images to life. This frame-by-frame approach is time consuming, but it allows for a level of detail and personality that resonates deeply with audiences, something we witness firsthand in every project.

A cornerstone of our traditional animation approach is the application of the “12 Principles of Animation,” developed by legendary Disney animators Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas. These principles, such as squash and stretch, anticipation, and timing, help our animators create believable, engaging movement and expressive characters. By mastering these techniques, our artists craft sequences that feel dynamic and emotionally rich, drawing viewers into immersive worlds. The process may be labor-intensive, but we know the results are timeless: characters and stories that continue to captivate audiences, frame after frame.

The FEVR Difference

At FEVR, 2D animation represents more than just a production technique, it’s our passion for explosive creative expression and masterful storytelling. Our approach combines traditional animation principles with cutting-edge digital workflows. FEVR’s platform provides a unified environment where we design, animate, and export 2D animations seamlessly. Utilizing professional-grade tablets and software integration, including versatile 2D animation software options like Cartoon Animator, we maintain artistic integrity while meeting modern production demands.

We offer comprehensive support throughout the animation process, from concept art and storyboarding to voice recording and final animation, ensuring smooth collaboration and high-quality results. Every project reflects our commitment to bringing characters and stories to life with the attention to detail, use of textures for enhanced visual appeal, and craftsmanship that makes 2D animation a truly timeless art form. This is what sets our work apart, not just technical excellence, but the passion and expertise we pour into every frame we create.
